However, there are just some people in this world I can’t love|respect. A recent example would be the protesters at Dale Farm who a) weren’t residents and b) turned up just to cause trouble.

A society based around love|respect will never be able to tolerate anarchy.
Yes you can love|respect their rights and passion to do what they want, but when you oppress them for what they are doing does that love|respect still hold?

A quote (I think I saw in the comments on that page) “Love the vessel, not the contents” ‘solves’ that dilemma, but that achieves nothing in reality.

Can you love|respect a petty thief who steals bread for his family?
Can you love|respect a mugger who needs to pay for his latest fix?
Can you love|respect a …. well you know where this is going to end up (and I don’t like using the word).

Either we oppress all unsavoury elements of society, or we deem them acceptable, only then we can truly have universal love|respect.

If oppression is the answer, then I would argue that universal love|respect can’t exist if it begins with such an act.

Can we remove unsavoury elements another way? Maybe by levelling the field so everyone has equal standing? Probably. However it is written in to nature for there to always be an Alpha in a pack, so eventually someone will fill that void.

I don’t have the answers, but hopefully there is some food for thought up there.
